What happens when social economy and blockchain or Distributed Ledger Technology meet? Join the discussion on 7 February 2019 from 09:00 to 13:00 at the EESC with experts and representatives from Social Economy, Eu institutions and companies. The workshop will present solutions based on Blockchain or Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs) for social goals. Denis Stokkink, President of PLS, will moderate the third session of the event.

Blockchain drives an important and disruptive trend in many fields. Thanks to blockchain technologies, we see how various intermediaries decrease in number, the systems are decentralized, and thus becomes more secure, lively and transparent. Blockchain offers flexibility and operational readiness. Blockchain and DLT frameworks have many similarities with the underlying principles of cooperatives and Social Economy. The aim is not only to develop scalable, efficient and high-impact decentralised solutions to social innovation challenges but also to bring social economy enterprises and related stakeholders closer to blockchain technology as possible tools for their developments.

Among the panelists of the event will be :

  • Mrs Ulla Engelmann, Head of Unit for Advanced Technologies, Social Economy and Clusters, European Commission, DG Grow
  • Mr Fabrizio Sestini, Senior Expert for Digital Social Innovation, European Commission DG CONNECT
  • Mr Pierre Marro, European Commision, DG CONNECT
  • Mr Francois-Xavier Thoorens, CEO of ARK Ecosystem Scic (France)
