Although the Juncker Commission has included in its programme some new accents, such as Europe\u2019s strategic investment plan, the Eurogroup\u2019s negotiations with the new Greek government have made it clear that EU leaders remain reluctant to let go of their failing austerity narrative. Contrary to their claims that there is no alternative, several of the world\u2019s top economists have developed alternative solutions to tackle Europe\u2019s debt crisis.<\/p>\n
Increasingly, European citizens have lost trust in their traditional political and economic elites and are turning to new and much more radical political parties (Syriza, Podemos) or nationalist and extreme-right alternatives (the Front national in France, AfD in Germany\u2026). As a result of these developments, the European integration project is itself coming under pressure.<\/p>\n

At this special conference, renowned economists Prof. James Galbraith<\/strong>, University of Texas at Austin, Raymond Torres<\/strong>, Director of Research at the ILO, Heiner Flassbeck<\/strong>, former German State Secretary and Director of Flassbeck-Economics<\/em>, and Prof. Benjamin Coriat<\/strong>, Universit\u00e9 Paris 13, will provide their analysis of Europe\u2019s protracted crisis and introduce concrete alternatives on how to reshape Europe\u2019s economy for sustainable growth, investment, jobs and equitable prosperity.<\/p>\n Bernadette S\u00e9gol<\/strong>, ETUC General secretary will give the closing remarks.
